HEAR ME OUT I HAVE EVIDENCE AND IM JUST REALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS
- One name directory website talks about the origin of the name: “Rowan is the name of a tree with red berries that’s commonly found in Scotland (and said to ward off witches). ” (Also yeah, the witch repellant thing is 100% appropriate and super sneaky on Sarah’s part!)
- A lot of Erilea is heavily influenced by the United Kingdom. Sarah J. Maas has stated that Terrasen (most likely terrain-wise) was inspired by Scotland. The style in which most of the characters speak is very British, particularly in Adarlan.
- In Wendlyn, Aelin is called “lass.” I mean come on.
- Rowan’s accent is initially described as a “purr,” which insinuates a rolling sound—the very sort of sound that separates a British accent from a Scottish one.
- Angry Scottish accents are kind of the best thing ever.
